Patient of the Month

Riley Norland Age 7

Hi Hilltop Family!

My name is Riley and I will be turning 7 in October.  I wanted to share with you a little about my experience as a kid and chiropractic care.  My mommy is Crickit.  Many of you may know her because she is the smiling face you see when you walk into Hilltop Family Chiropractic.  She is the reason I am able to tell  Nyou my Chiropractic Story.

The way the story goes, my mom told me that she was adjusted and received chiropractic care from Dr. Marla throughout her entire pregnancy to ensure that we both would have a healthy labor.  When my birthday came in October 2004, Dr. Marla received a call from my Mom that she wouldn’t be able to come into work because her water broke 3 ½ weeks early and was off to the hospital.  When the office closed that night, Dr. Marla rushed over to the hospital to make sure Mommy and Daddy were both ok.  They had planned a natural child birth, but with Mommy’s water breaking, her OBGYN (whatever that means) had to induce her labor to make me come into the world as fast as possible.  Dr. Marla knew that this would cause stress, not only on my Mom’s body, but my worried Daddy’s as well.  She was so kind as to adjust Mommy during her labor, and gave Dad an adjustment too!

I was born at 2:00am the next early morning.  I slept next to Mommy that night and Dad was so afraid that she would roll over and squish me, but she didn’t.  Dr. Marla came to see me that day and that was when I received my first chiropractic adjustment! She picked me up gently by my ankles and hung me upside down until my spine aligned!  The birthing process can be very stressful on a newborn’s body, so Dr. Marla wanted to ensure that I was okay! After that, my parents would bring me in once a week to keep my immune system healthy and functioning properly.  I am an old pro around the office and when my mom asks me to please go lay down in an adjustment room, I know the ropes.  I walk down the hall with my travel card, look for the open room and lie down, face first, on the adjustment table and relax.

When Dr. Marla comes into my adjustment room, she always has a smile on her face, which makes me feel good.  She checks the length of my legs, and sometimes comments on how tall I am getting.  When she adjusts me, we have nicknames for some of the different positions.  My favorites are when she “twists me up like a pretzel” and “the popcorn” sound when she adjusts my neck. The adjustments never hurt and Dr. Marla is very gentle.  After every adjustment, she kisses me on my forehead.

I have to tell you that my parents chose not to immunize me and I have never had a shot.  I have been a regular patient of chiropractic care since day one and have rarely been sick.  I know that my parents love me very much to have made chiropractic our choice of “healthcare” and I will continue to grow and be healthy into my adult years.

Thank you for listening to my story.  If you ever have questions about kids and chiropractic care, Dr. Marla and my Mommy know a lot of information.  And if your kids want to know more about it, I will be happy to share with them why I want to be a chiropractor when I grow up.
